This refreshing grapefruit daiquiri is the perfect summer cocktail. It's easy to make but feels fancy when served in a cute glass. What more could you ask for?

If you’re looking for a refreshing summer cocktail, look no further. This grapefruit daiquiri is IT!

Sweet, slightly bitter, and very tasty, this easy cocktail requires minimal ingredients for maximum taste.

When you first hear the word daiquiri, you might think of a slushy, blended drink. However, this cocktail is a play on the classic daiquiri — a shaken cocktail, which we happen to think is MUCH better.

    What is a daiquiri?

If a tall, icy drink in a hurricane glass is what comes to mind when you hear the word ‘daiquiri’ you’re not alone.

Somewhere along the way, the name of this classic cocktail was picked up and used for a wide variety of frozen cocktails. While we have nothing against frozen cocktails, this daiquiri is decidedly NOT frozen, taking inspiration instead from the classic cocktail which is shaken (not blended) and contains no ice once it’s been shaken and strained.

Classic daiquiris consist of rum, lime juice, and simple syrup.

For this recipe, we’ve taken that base and swapped half the lime juice for grapefruit juice instead. The result is an equally tangy drink but with the lovely bitterness of grapefruit. This drink is dynamic, fruity and absolutely amazing.

Serve it up at your next garden party or enjoy it after a day on the beach. We can almost feel the warm breeze just imagining it!

Hero ingredient: Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva rum

While grapefruit juice does play a part in making this cocktail unique, the real hero ingredient is the Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva rum used to make this.

Trust us when we say that this is the best rum; even rum haters will be converted by this cocktail when they finally experience just how impressive good rum can be.

It stands apart from other rums with its smoothness, perfect balance of flavours and prestigious blend. There is so much dimension to this drop, with clear, well-defined fruit flavours as opposed to sickly molasses sweetness. It has a lush, tropical bouquet with only a touch of harshness.  In one sip, even an unfamiliar palate will pick up on hints of banana, light caramel, and vanilla.

… so without further ado, let’s get mixing!

    FAQ

    Can I use store-bought juice?

No - only use fresh-squeezed citrus juice for this drink (and generally in all cocktails). Store bought and bottled juices don't have the same flavour punch, and therefore don't work as well like cocktails, which only require a small amount of juice anyway.

Should I shake the cocktail with cubed or crushed ice?

Cubed ice is best when making cocktails. Crushed ice isn't as heavy, so it's harder to shake - and it's a lot more difficult to strain with crushed ice.

Can I use a different rum in this daiquiri?

Yes, you can (though we're STRONG supporters of Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva. If you want a similar taste, choose another dark, aged rum.

    Description

This refreshing grapefruit daiquiri is the perfect summer cocktail. It's easy to make but feels fancy when served in a cute glass. What more could you ask for?

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 120 ml Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva
    • 90 ml simple syrup
    • 30 ml fresh lime juice
    • 30 ml fresh grapefruit juice
    • ice (for shaking)
    • grapefruit peel, pith removed and sliced into thin strips (for garnish)

    Instructions

    1. Prepare 2 cocktail glasses
    2. Fill cocktail shaker with ice
    3. add the Diplomático rum, simple syrup, lime juice, and grapefruit juice to a shaker.
    4. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the cocktail is completely chilled.
    5. Double-strain with a small strainer as you pour the drink into two cocktail glasses.
    6. Garnish each drink with a grapefruit twist.

    Notes

    • Be sure to taste your cocktail before you split into glasses. If you want it sweeter, add more simple syrup. For a more sour drink, add more lime juice. For a stronger grapefruit flavour, add more grapefruit juice.
    • Only use fresh lime and grapefruit juice for this drink! It won't work as well with store-bought juices.

Love this! Usually not a big rum drinker, too sweet. But this one is so summery and fresh
