Move over oats, these overnight Weetabix with Nutella are a breakfast game-changer. Perfectly sweet and creamy, this breakfast will also keep you feeling full until lunch time!
This healthy breakfast idea has to be one of the most delicious meals you can meal prep.
Like overnight oats, you can make this ahead and enjoy it the next morning, no heating required.
You might have seen overnight Weetabix recipes (or overnight Weet-bix recipes - depending how it's spelled where you live) all over social media. And while the trend might have started on Tik Tok and Instagram, it's a seriously good healthy breakfast option for busy mornings.
Made with a healthy breakfast cereal like Weetabix, plain yogurt and a little Nutella swirl - it's also a bit of a treat that tastes subtly of cheese cake.
What Do Overnight Weetabix Taste Like
This Nutella overnight Weetbix recipe falls somewhere in the same category as yogurt parfaits.
They're
- yogurt-y
- high protein
- easy to make
- perfect for a grab-and-go breakfast
- totally customisable
Thanks to the yogurt layer, you do get a strong yogurt flavour while eating overnight Weetabix. Just like a yogurt bowl or parfait, though, the real fun comes from adding your favourite toppings.
For this recipe, we kept it simple with a swirl of Nutella (yum!), but you could also add strawberries or bananas to the mix for some extra fruit.
Think of overnight Weetbix like 'Weetbix overnight oats' - different grains, but the same concept!
Ingredients and Substitutions
Base ingredients:
- Weetabix: You know how Weetabix get a bit soggy when left in milk too long? Well, in this recipe, that's actually a good thing! Mixed with liquid, it creates a Weetabix base that's thick enough to layer yogurt on top of. We don't recommend swapping Weetabix for another type of cereal unless it's a regional difference (Weet-bix) or a home-brand version of the same thing.
- Almond milk: We used almond milk as our main liquid in this recipe, but you can feel free to swap it for your milk of choice. Any plant or diary milk will work just fine - oat milk is especially delicious in this recipe!
Top layers:
- Yogurt: We used an individual tub of Greek yogurt, but you can also use a kitchen scale to measure out 170g. You can use either plain (natural) or sweetened vanilla yogurt - it's up to you!
- Sweetener: This is totally optional, but if you use plain yogurt, you might want to add a bit of sweetness. Maple syrup tastes especially nice, but honey, agave syrup or any sugar-free sweetener would also work.k
- Nutella: The chocolate swirl in this recipe is made (of course) from Nutella! If you don't love the hazelnut flavour of this spread, however, you can swap it for your favourite milk/dark chocolate spread or substitute with plain chocolate chips, sprinkled over the top!
Optional:
If you want to make this nutritious breakfast even fancier, feel free to add additional ingredients including:
- Vanilla extract: add ½ teaspoon to the yogurt layer for extra flavour
- Fresh fruit: you can top this with your fruit of choice. Banana slices or fresh berries would taste delicious!
- Chia seeds: amp up the nutrition, by sprinkling a bit of chia into the crushed Weetabix before adding milk.
FAQ and Troubleshooting
Yep! Weetbix is the Aussie version of Weetabix, so it'll work just the same!
You can use any yogurt you'd like! For a higher protein option, we recommend something a vanilla flavoured greek yogurt like Chobani Fit.
To allow the overnight Weetabix to set, we recommend refrigerating it for at least 4 hours before eating.
Definitely! For high-protein overnight Weetabix, simply add 10-15 grams of your favourite protein powder to the yogurt, and stir well before layering onto the Weetabix layer.
If you're not a fan of Nutella, you can swap it out for peanut butter, Biscoff spread, jam, or simply leave it out altogether. As noted above, you can also use any chocolate spread of your choice (milk/dark/white chocolate), or swap for chocolate chips.

This is always a good lunch snack to take to uni! Definitely prefer it cold straight out the fridge, but it's still so good by midday. Thanks

Such a great idea to bring it to uni, Lacey! Sounds like the perfect healthy snack to keep powering through your day. Thanks for the review 🙂

I don’t understand how people like soggy weetbix? Is the weetbix wet and soggy? I’ve tried someone else’s very popular recipe of this and the weetbix were wet and soggy? Are yours not?
Thanks 😊
Simply Fresh Foodie says
Hi there! The weetbix do soak up some of the liquid overnight, but they are still somewhat soggy. The texture is quite similar to overnight oats. Hope that helps 🙂

Thank you 🙂
Ben says
How do you stop the nutella from freezing over night?
Simply Fresh Foodie says
If you put it in the fridge, it should be fine. The Nutella should thicken up a bit but not freeze completely. If you don't like it like that, though you can always put it on immediately before eating.

So yum 🙂

Agreed 😉
Confused says
Hello,
Sorry for such a silly question, but do you then heat the weetabix before eating the next day?
Simply Fresh Foodie says
Hi there,
Most people just eat it cold, but you could definitely heat it up if you prefer. Let us know how you go 🙂
