air fryer carrot fries

These crispy air fryer carrot fries are simple, healthy and delicious. If you're a fan of sweet potato fries, we have a feeling you're going to love these.

Seriously, is there a better way to eat carrots?

With only 5 ingredients and 20 minutes to spare, you're on your way to pure delicious-ness.

In terms of serving these fries, pretty much any sauce would do. Flavour-wise, they're quite similar to sweet potato fries, so things like ketchup and aioli would work well. Because hummus is the best, you know we had to make a special hummus dip for these (which is highly-recommended).

What Makes These Carrot Fries Crispy?

The secret to making these carrot fries turn crispy (and not mushy) is to coat them in semolina before air-frying. Semolina flour is a high-protein durum wheat flour, the kind that is typically used to make pasta.

You can find it at Woolworths, but if you don't have any on hand, you can also swap it out for corn starch or corn flour. Anything that gives it a nice bit of coating.

Ingredients for the Fries

  • Carrots: Nothing fancy here, just your average carrots! Cut them into chip- shapes if you want them fry-like. But really, the choice is up to you.
  • Olive oil: My #1 cooking tip is to ALWAYS use a high-quality olive oil. We like Red Island because it's packed full of that deep, rich flavour.
  • Garlic powder: We added garlic powder because it's awesome. You should do the same.
  • Flaky sea salt: Just like we always recommend high-quality olive oil, another basic we think everyone needs is flaky sea salt. It just adds that gourmet quality to all of your foods. If you don't have any, though, any salt works.

Description

These carrot fries are super easy to make in an air fryer and come out crispy like french fries.

Scale
  • 5 carrots
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (extra virgin)
  • 2 tsp semolina flour (or corn flour/ corn starch)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Wash carrots and slice them into fry- like shapes, ⅓ cm thick.
  2. In a large bowl, coat carrots with olive oil.
  3. Sprinkle semolina flour over carrots, and ensure that each one is coated.
  4. Add seasonings, and toss to coat each carrot.
  5. Put carrots into the air fryer, and cook until soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, about 20 mins.
  6. Eat on their own, or serve with a dipping sauce. I love these with garlic sriracha hummus!
