Figuring out how to eat healthy food every day is a huge key in adopting a healthy lifestyle.

While it may seem daunting at first, there are plenty of super-simple ways to incorporate healthy foods into each meal. It's important to remember that you don't need to eat "clean" or "healthy" 100% of the time. However, understanding where you can make little tweaks, and add more nutrition-rich foods can make a big impact on your overall diet.

Here, I've listed a few simple ways that you can start eating healthy food every day. Start by choosing one tip and work on making it a habit. Once you're used to that, try another... before you know it, you'll find that you're naturally eating more healthy foods.

Ways to Eat Healthy Food Every Day

  • Drink smoothies
  • Always include veggies
  • Become friends with nuts and seeds

Add More Nutrition to Your Diet With Smoothies

Drinking smoothies is a wonderful way to increase the amount of healthy foods you're eating. I love adding a huge variety of fruits, veggies, and seeds to my smoothies to make them nutritionally-dense and satisfying enough to keep me full.

Most fruits taste wonderful in smoothies, so find a few you like and stick with it. Bananas can add richness and sweetness, while berries will provide antioxidants and fibre. It may sound strange to add veggies into your smoothie, but a handful of spinach will get you some greens and I promise you can barely even taste it. Blend some chia, hemp, or flax seeds in as well to add healthy fats.

Try to Include Veggies in Every Meal

It's surprisingly easy to add veggies to every meal once you get the hang of it. Keep a few of your favourites on hand, so that you can add them as a side-dish to your meal, or snack on them throughout the day. If you don't like the idea of putting veggies in your usual dishes, keep a bag of salad mix on hand to eat as a side to your main course.

Enjoy veggies throughout the day by

  • Adding spinach to your smoothies
  • Eating raw veggies with hummus as a snack (carrots, cucumbers, celery, and capsicum)
  • Mix veggies into your pasta (eggplant, spinach, tomatoes, sliced carrots)
  • As a side salad with your main dish

Snack on Nuts and Seeds Daily

I know that nuts and seeds may seem boring and expensive, but adding more nuts and seeds to your diet can provide so many health benefits. According to Better Health, nuts and seeds provide key vitamins and minerals but also help to regulate body weight.

If you're not a huge fan, start by adding them to other dishes like smoothies, porridge, and salads. Personally, I always keep a small container of nuts in my bag for a quick snack. They're convenient, tasty and oh-so-satisfying.
