I know I say this about every recipe, but this single serve cinnamon roll is really amazing. Unlike regular cinnamon rolls which require a lot of prep, this one is super-easy to make on a weekend morning. Plus, you don't need to make a whole batch to satisfy your craving.
If you've ever tried to make cinnamon rolls, you likely know just how complicated they can be. Traditional recipes often require complex and time-consuming steps (scalding milk, letting yeast rise). This, however, is the exception.
While it's not exactly a quick recipe, this single serve cinnamon roll is undeniably easy. The hardest part of the entire process would be kneading the dough, as it can be quite sticky at first. Just set aside some extra flour to add to the mix, though, and you'll be fine. And once you taste this cinnamon roll, you'll be better than fine. I promise.
Cinnamon Roll Ingredients
Not including the icing, this cinnamon roll only requires 5 basic ingredients. Pretty magical, no?
What you'll need:
- Self-rising flour: It's important to make sure you use self-rising flour to ensure that your roll will in fact rise and become puffy like the one pictured. I've only tried with white flour, but let me know how it turns out if you try wheat flour!
- Coconut yogurt: I used a plain coconut yogurt here, as the cinnamon roll is definitely sweet enough on its own. If you do use a flavoured yogurt (like vanilla), consider cutting back on the sugar a little - otherwise it may be sickly sweet.
- Vegan butter: Any vegan butter will work, but a spreadable one will probably make things easier for you. I used Nuttelex buttery, and it was the perfect texture/flavour for this recipe.
- Brown sugar: Brown sugar adds a nice caramelised flavour the cinnamon rolls. Feel free to swap it out for coconut sugar if you prefer.
- Cinnamon: Of course, cinnamon rolls require cinnamon. The more, the merrier!
Icing Ingredients
The icing for this cinnamon roll is super-simple. I recommend waiting until the cinnamon roll is out of the oven to mix it up, otherwise it can start to harden a bit. All you need is:
- Powdered sugar
- Almond milk (or other liquid of choice)
📖 Recipe
Single Serve Cinnamon Roll
- Total Time: 40 minutes
- Yield: 1 1x
Description
This single serve cinnamon roll is perfect for when you're craving an indulgent breakfast, but don't want to bake a whole batch. It's vegan, less and 10 ingredients, and has no yeast. Perfectly simple!
Ingredients
Cinnamon Roll
- ½ cup self-rising flour
- 100 g coconut yogurt (plain)
- 1 tsp vegan butter
- 1-3 teaspoon brown sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Icing
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp almond milk
Instructions
Cinnamon Roll
- In a bowl, mix flour and coconut yogurt. Knead with your hands until everything is well-incorporated. You may need to add more flour to stop it from sticking to your hands. Add a small amount at a time, until it's still soft but no longer sticks. The amount will depend on the yogurt you use, but I ended up using about 1 Tablespoon extra.
- Flatten the dough into a rectangle, about 20x 30 cm. Spread vegan butter on rectangle, and top with sugar and cinnamon.
- Slice the dough in half, parallel to the longer side of the rectangle so that you end up with two long, skinny strips. Begin with one strip, and roll keeping the sugar and cinnamon on the inside. When the first strip is rolled up, place it on the second strip, and roll that one into the cinnamon roll too.
- Place in ramekin and bake at 180° C for about 30 minutes, until the top begins to brown.
Icing
- When the cinnamon roll is ready, prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar and almond milk. Pour over cinnamon roll and enjoy!

I made this today and I was SO impressed with the taste and texture. I’m wondering what would happen if I added a scoop of vanilla protein powder and more yogurt obviously 🤔 any idea how that might turn out?? Lol

Yay! So happy to hear it, Cayla.
We did test this one with protein powder and more liquid. The result was a flatter, tougher cinnamon roll. It didn't puff up as much as the oven baked one, and was definitely a bit drier. However, it will be highly dependent on which protein powder you use. Let us know if you try - we'd love to hear how it turns out. 🙂
