A Green Kale Smoothie That Actually Tastes Good

    Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

This green kale smoothie is the perfect breakfast or snack for anyone who's looking to sneak more greens into their life. Best of all, it actually tastes good!

While kale isn't as neutral a smoothie ingredient as other greens (like spinach and bok choy) the fruits in this one keep the smoothie tasting nice, even with the added kale.

I won't say you don't notice the kale. You definitely do.

But personally, I still enjoy it and don't mind a dose of greens mixed into a fruity smoothie.

If you're not into the idea of kale in a smoothie, I've got plenty of other smoothie recipes here.

    Green Kale Smoothie Ingredients

This one is simply straightforward, with the fanciest ingredient being hemp seeds:

    • Granny smith apple: I love the sourness granny smith gives to this smoothie. If you don't like granny smith apples, though, you can definitely go for another type of apple here. Just remember, yours may not come out as green if you do.
    • Banana: A ripe banana adds the perfect amount of sweetness to this smoothie. I would recommend using a frozen banana, as it makes for an incredible creamy texture. I've made it with a non-frozen banana, and it still tastes great though. Whatever you have on hand!
    • Kale: I choose frozen kale for smoothies because let's be honest, chopping kale is annoying! Plus, the little chunks that kale is frozen is makes it so easy to just toss into a smoothie. You can use fresh, or swap the kale for a more neutral green like spinach if you prefer.
    • Hemp seeds: Hemp seeds give this protein a little extra kick of protein (9.5g for 3 Tbsp). I love hemp seeds and put them in most of my smoothies and oats. If you don't like them, though, feel free to leave them out. You could also substitute another type of seed, nut or nut butter instead.
