With minimal ingredients, this Oreo milk tea is so simple to make. So good it lives up to your favourite boba shop and is easily customisable or made vegan!
Nothing beats the flavour of milk and Oreos. . . except, that is, milk and Oreos combined in milk tea.
And luckily for us all, it only requires a bit of time and a few simple ingredients to make it at home! The best part is that it's highly customisable and requires no special equipment.
The slight tang of black tea flavour takes the traditional milk and cookies flavour and makes this delicious Oreo milk tea more complex, the perfect base for adding chewy tapioca pearls.
Top it with a bit of whipped cream and you’ll have a sweet treat that rivals your favourite bubble tea shop.
Why it Works
This simple recipe works so well due to the great taste of crushed Oreos. By blending Oreos, black tea, and your preferred milk (dairy or non-dairy milk), it’s easy to create an indulgent beverage similar to what you’d find at tea shops.
Requiring only a few simple steps, this base is easy to make and tastes created with chewy boba pearls added in.
What you Need
You really only need four main ingredients (plus ice) to make this delicious drink:
- Tea: This recipe calls for black tea, for added depth and richness. Any classic tea bags will work, but we used Twinings English Breakfast Tea. You can also use oolong tea for a softer taste, but we don’t recommend green tea as the fruitiness and tannins will clash with the rich Oreo flavour.
- 1 cup milk of choice: Use any milk you prefer here! Plain dairy milk works well, but this recipe is easily made vegan by using alternatives like almond milk, soy milk or oat milk.
- Ice: We used ice to make sure our milk tea was served cold. Big cubes and crushed ice both work well, depending on which texture you prefer. You can also leave out the ice for lukewarm tea, or warm your tea again (in the microwave or on the stovetop) after blending for a hot milk tea.
- 2 Oreos: The classic Oreo flavour is the star of the show here! The chocolate biscuits and cream centre make this drink a true delight for your taste buds. This is the only thing we don’t recommend adjusting since Oreos are essential. Feel free to adjust the type of Oreos you use, but we think the original is best in this recipe!
- 1 tablespoon sugar: Sugar sweetens the tea, so feel free to use as much or as little as you like. We opted for white sugar, but brown sugar works equally well and adds a slightly caramelised flavour to the milk tea. Don’t love sweetness, start with a smaller amount of sugar. For a sweeter drink, simply add more sugar.
Optional Additions
- Black tapioca pearls: To turn this milk tea into Oreo milk bubble tea, add tapioca pearls which have been soaked in brown sugar syrup. Before pouring your tea into the glass, pour tapioca pearls in, then top with the drink. Warning: if you go this route, you might need to make sure you have bubble tea straws on hand so that you can suck up the pearls.
- Ice cream: Add a scoop of ice cream into the blender with the other milk tea ingredients to create a version reminiscent of an Oreo milkshake. Creamy, dreamy and the perfect refreshing drink for summer.
- Whipped cream: While it’s not 100% necessary, we highly recommend topping your Oreo milk tea with whipped cream. The creamy sweetness is a great addition to balance the subtle black tea flavour. Sprinkle a few crushed Oreos on top, and you’ll have a professional-level milk tea to enjoy!
