This easy strawberry chia jam is so good, you’ll never need to buy store-bought jam again. It only takes 3 ingredients, a few minutes, and is so much healthier than sugar-filled ones you find in the store.
This jam is:
- Perfectly thick and juicy
- Naturally sweetened
- Full of omega-3-rich chia seeds
- Quick and simple
What is Chia Jam?
Chia jam is just like “normal” jam but made with chia seeds.
By adding chia seeds to mashed up fruit, it becomes gelatinous and thickens up the same way that you expect from your favourite store-bought jams. The magic of chia jam is that you can use any fruit and any sweetener, adjusting each batch to your taste.
While other jams sometimes require long simmering times, this chia jam only requires 5 minutes of simmering. Then it simply rests in the jar to thicken, and you’re left with a beautiful healthy jam.
Is Chia Jam Good for You?
Chia jam is good for you for two main reasons:
- It contains chia seeds
- It has much less sugar than your average jam
Because chia seeds contain omega-3, they’re a great addition to any diet — but are particularly helpful for those of us who eat plant-based. I like adding chia seeds wherever I can, so this jam is perfect for me!
Additionally, store-bought jams can sometimes contain up to 14 grams of sugar per serving! With this recipe, you can adjust the sweetness to your taste, but I bet that you’ll use less sugar than the grocery store options. In this recipe, I use monk fruit, which is a natural sweetener to keep the sugar level low.
How Do You Store It?
To store this strawberry chia jam, just pour it into a re-used jar and keep it in the fridge. I use a recycled Mayver’s peanut butter jar since I always have them on hand. It’s also the perfect size to store this amount of jam. It will last in the fridge for up to one week.
